Spectators

If you want to check out the action on the day, there’s a few things to keep in mind.

Cottesloe Beach (Mudurup)

Come and experience the trepidation of the start! The first wave leaves at 5.45am, with the last wave leaving at 7.40am – so it’s important to make sure you get down early. Parking around the beach is limited, so make sure you plan accordingly to avoid last minute hassle.

Rottnest Island (Wadjemup)

The first swimmers will arrive at the island at around 10am, so it’s a good idea to be at the island at 9.30am. Ferries fill up quickly, so make sure you make a booking early so you don’t miss out. There’ll be sponsor activities happening all day, so you can make a day of it after the final waves of swimmers come in. The event will finish at 5pm.

There’ll be plenty of entertainment and activities for the whole family before, during and after the swimmers arrive on the Island.

Please note that the Fuel Jetty in Thomson Bay will be closed to spectators this year from 9am to 6pm in order to enable access for emergency services. Security personnel will be in place to enforce the closure.

However, there are still plenty of viewing spots to see the competitors finish the race. The following are the top three viewing spots:

  • Beach in front of Isola Rottnest
  • Grassed area in front of the Salt Store
  • Mezzanine area above the Visitor Centre
