There are a few different ways we could use your help to make the event run smoothly, so if you’re over 16 and thinking of becoming a volunteer, check out the information below.
Please note, volunteer registrations have closed for the 2021 South32 Rottnest Channel Swim.
Volunteer race officials
As a race official, you’ll be really important in making sure everything is safe and fair for the swimmers. You will be on board a boat with a dedicated skipper for the day, so you can focus on the action.
We’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need to be prepared, including food, water, equipment and training. We’ll also tell you everything you need to know in a compulsory on water stakeholder and race official briefing during the first week of February.
Land based volunteers
You’ll be kept busy as a land based volunteer in a number of ways, including:
- Registration of swimmers
- Guiding swimmers
- Being in the cheer squad
- T-shirt sales and exchange.
We also need team leaders to manage groups of volunteers.
You won’t leave empty handed
If you help out at the finish line, you’ll get lunch and a return ferry ticket to Rottnest Island.
All volunteers will get an official Rottnest Channel Swim T-shirt and hat to wear at the briefing and on event day, which you’ll be able to keep.
Don’t worry if you don’t have experience or previous participation in the event – we’ll tell you everything you need to know. There’ll be compulsory volunteer briefings on Saturday, 23 January 2021.
The volunteer briefing covers everything to do with the event, including volunteer duties both for the lead up events and event day. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the event manager and fellow volunteers. Check out our pre-event section to find out more about key dates and volunteer preparation.
Remember, you need to be 16 or over to be a volunteer.
