Volunteer Race Officials

VIEW INFO FLYER

As a Volunteer Race Official, you’re integral to ensuring everything is safe and fair for swimmers. You will be onboard a boat with a dedicated skipper for the day, so you can focus on the action.

Your role is to monitor all swimmers and support crew, ensuring they do not breach any of the Event Rules and, if required, warning and disqualifying swimmers who disobey directions.

We’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need to be prepared, including food, water, equipment and training. We will also cover any required ferry transportation and all volunteers will also get an official Rottnest Channel Swim Race Official Shirt, volunteer hat and water bottle to wear/use on Event Day, which you’ll be able to keep.

Race Officials will be required to volunteer on Event Day, Saturday, 22 February 2025, for either the AM or PM shift:

AM – 5:00am-11:30am

PM – 10:30am-5:00pm

Age Requirement:

You need to be 18 years or over (on Event Day) to register as a Volunteer Race Official.

As part of your training, you will complete:

All external qualifications/training will be paid for by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association.

Briefings

Don’t worry if you don’t have experience or previous participation in the Event – we’ll tell you everything you need to know. There’ll be a compulsory volunteer briefing at 10.00am, Saturday, 18 January 2025.

There’ll also be a compulsory On-Water Stakeholder & Race Official Briefing from 6pm on Thursday, 13 February 2025 (location will be advised to successful registrants).

The volunteer briefing covers everything to do with the event, including volunteer duties both for event day. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the event team and fellow volunteers. Check out our pre-event section to find out more about key dates and volunteer preparation.
