Volunteer Race Officials
As a volunteer race official, you’re integral to ensuring everything is safe and fair for swimmers. You will be onboard a boat with a dedicated skipper for the day, so you can focus on the action.
Your role is to monitor all swimmers and support crew, ensuring they do not breach any of the event rules and, if required, warning and disqualifying swimmers who disobey directions.
We’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need to be prepared, including food, water, equipment and training. We will also cover any required ferry transportation and all volunteers will also get an official Rottnest Channel Swim T-shirt, hat and water bottle to wear/use on event day, which you’ll be able to keep.
Race Officials will be required to volunteer on event day, Saturday 24 February, 2024, for either the AM or PM shift:
AM – 4:30am-11:00am
PM – 11:00am-5:00pm
As part of your training, you will complete:
- Provide First Aid training
- Community Officiating General Principles qualification
- 1-2 hour in-person briefing
All external qualifications/training will be paid for by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association.
Briefing
Don’t worry if you don’t have experience or previous participation in the event – we’ll tell you everything you need to know. There’ll be a compulsory On-Water Stakeholder & Race Official Briefing from 6pm on Thursday 15 February 2024 (location will be provided directly to Race Officials).
You need to be 18 or over to be a volunteer Race Official.
