Registrations are Changing
The Rottnest Channel Swim Association today announced a major change in the registration system for the annual crossing, which will become a first-in, first-served system for the 2017 event.
“The ballot system made sense at the time of implementation,” said President David Corney.
“Entries were physically submitted on paper at that time and it was fairer for everyone, especially those who may have been geographically disadvantaged otherwise.
“As the whole system is now managed online, registrations for 2017 will be able to be made as soon as a team is ready, and the entry accepted immediately.”
Unfortunately there have been a few Duos and Teams who have missed out a few years in a row from the ballot, and the new system will ensure that the random-ness is removed.
Active Network is responsible for the implementation of many other major sporting events and has a wealth of experience in handling large numbers on any one day. The RCSA is confident that this system will be fairer in the current climate.
Exact dates of registration will be announced soon, but it is likely that the Solos will have one period of registration between Monday, 24 October to Sunday, 30 October 2016, and then Duos and Teams will follow afterwards from from Wednesday, 2 November to Sunday, 6 November 2016. This is to allow the Association to be able to allocate the correct boat number across the fleet. We emphasise that all Solo swimmers’ entries will be accepted within their registration window.
All swimmers will be able to set up an ‘Active Passport’ prior to registrations opening, which will expedite the process when the system opens. In addition, not all of the information will be required at the time of registration in order to secure a spot.
