The forecast conditions for Saturday’s swim are looking favourable at this stage. There are predicted strong easterly winds (18 knots/30 km/h) for the start of the swim with these easing throughout the morning and afternoon and remaining from a south-south-east direction. The swell is also easing throughout the day, starting at 1.5 metres in the morning and dropping to 1 metre. The weather will be mostly sunny with a maximum of 34 degrees.
Charitha Pattiaratchi, Professor of Coastal Oceanography at UWA, has kindly created an ocean current forecast for the Rottnest Channel Swim. The forecast for Saturday will be active from Wednesday and can be found at: coastaloceanography.org – click ‘events’.
